abstract |
[PROBLEMS] To suppress degradation and degradation of a polymer electrolyte membrane over a long period of time even when the operation and stop of a polymer electrolyte fuel cell are repeated, and have excellent durability capable of sufficiently preventing deterioration of initial characteristics. Provided are a membrane catalyst layer assembly and a membrane electrode assembly capable of easily and reliably realizing a polymer electrolyte fuel cell. An anode catalyst of a membrane catalyst layer assembly having an anode catalyst layer, a cathode catalyst layer, and a polymer electrolyte membrane having hydrogen ion conductivity disposed between the anode catalyst layer and the cathode catalyst layer. In the peripheral part of at least one of the layer and the cathode catalyst layer, there is provided a reduced portion in which the mass per unit area of the electrode catalyst decreases from the inside toward the outside.
