The present invention eliminates the need for a catalyst residue and unreacted monomer removal step, has excellent heat resistance, high transparency, and toughness, and controls the molecular weight within a molecular weight range that can be processed into a film, sheet, or the like. The present invention provides a method for producing a prepared cyclic olefin addition (co) polymer only by using a small amount of a palladium catalyst and a molecular weight modifier. In the presence of ethene, a cyclic olefin is prepared using a catalyst comprising a) an organic acid salt of palladium or β-diketonate compound, b) a cyclopentyl phosphine compound and c) an ionic boron compound or an ionic aluminum compound. Addition (co) polymerization of a monomer composed mainly of a compound is performed. [Selection figure] None |
