abstract | To provide an ink jet recording method which does not cause color bleeding or the like and has excellent dimensional stability even for a substrate having no ink absorbability, particularly a recording medium having low rigidity. SOLUTION: At least a coloring material, water, and a polymer compound having a plurality of side chains in a hydrophilic main chain and containing a high molecular compound capable of cross-linking between side chains by irradiation with active energy rays. Using ink, the ink is ejected onto the recording medium and irradiated with active energy rays to form an image, and the shrinkage in the in-plane direction represented by the following is from −0.13% to + 0.20%.
