abstract The present invention provides a novel barley streak determining gene and a method for modifying the barley streak using the gene. The present invention provides the chromosomal location and gene structure of genes involved in the determination of barley streak and panicle morphology. By introducing the Vrs1 gene into barley and controlling its expression, it was found that barley streak and ear morphology could be modified. In addition, the possibility of increasing the resistance to head blight of barley has been found. This makes it possible to produce barley having a trait that meets the desired application by efficiently modifying the barley's streak and ear morphology. [Selection figure] None
