abstract | The present invention provides a potassium niobate ion exchanger having a large cobalt ion exchange capacity, its production and application technology. A potassium niobate obtained by treating niobium oxide and an aqueous potassium hydroxide solution in high-temperature water at 300 ° C. or higher and 450 ° C. or lower, the basic structure of which is represented by the general formula: Nb 2 O 5 xK 2 O A cobalt ion exchanger having a form of fine particles composed of a potassium niobate compound represented by the formula (x in the formula is 0.6 to 1), an adsorbent and a purification device using the cobalt ion exchanger. This ion exchanger is simply produced by subjecting a mixture of niobium oxide and an aqueous potassium hydroxide solution to hydrothermal treatment, and subjecting the resulting precipitate to filtration, washing and drying. The present invention can provide a cobalt ion exchanger and a purification apparatus having a high cobalt ion exchange capacity, which can be suitably used for removing radionuclides in the primary cooling water of a nuclear reactor.
