abstract | The present invention provides an alkaline battery that is excellent in both heavy load discharge characteristics and light load discharge characteristics and that suppresses a decrease in discharge capacity due to self-discharge during storage. Oxygen in which Zn and Co are dissolved in 2 × 10 −3 to 6 × 10 −3 mol and 2 × 10 −3 to 2 × 10 −2 mol, respectively, with respect to 1 mol of nickel oxyhydroxide. An alkaline battery comprising: a positive electrode mixture 4 including a positive electrode active material composed of nickel hydroxide particles and 40 to 60% by mass of manganese dioxide; and a gelled negative electrode 6 containing zinc.
