PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low phosphorus lubricating oil composition which improves fuel economy and at the same time brings about high temperature oxidation, piston deposit formation and reduced wear generation. A lubricating oil composition comprising the following components: a) a base oil of a major amount of lubricating viscosity, b) an overbasicity having a total base number (TBN) of about 0.1 to 10% by weight of about 25 to 500 Alkaline earth metal alkylaryl sulfonate detergent, c) about 0.02 to 10% by weight oxymolybdenum-containing complex, d) about 0.1 to 5% by weight friction modifier, and e) about 0.2 to 10 % By weight of an antioxidant selected from the group consisting of diphenylamine type, sulfur-containing compounds and mixtures thereof, provided that the total concentration of oxymolybdenum-containing complex and antioxidant is at least 1 based on the total weight of the lubricating oil composition. The phosphorus content of the total lubricating oil composition is 0.08% by mass or less based on the total mass of the lubricating oil composition. [Selection figure] None |
