PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device configured as a dye-sensitized solar cell or the like, which has a sealing structure with high barrier properties and can maintain highly stable optical properties for a long period of time. In an optical device including a plurality of substrates 210 and 240 facing each other, and an electrolytic solution 230 being accommodated in an internal space between these substrates, any one of the plurality of substrates is externally connected to one of the substrates. A through-hole 254 is formed, and the through-hole is constituted by a recess 250 that opens to the outside and a communication hole 252 that is connected to the recess and opens to the internal space. An optical device satisfying the relationship of S1 <S2, where S2 is the maximum opening area of the recess 250 and S1 is the opening area of the communication hole 252 at the connection position with the recess 250.
