abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing poly (2-aryl-1,4-phenylene ether) useful as an electric / electronic material such as a printed circuit board and an insulating sealant. SOLUTION: (A) A 2-arylphenol compound and (B) a polyphenol compound are copolymerized in a mixture of (C) an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent and (D) a water-soluble organic medium. A method for producing a 2-arylphenol copolymer. The 2-arylphenol compound (A) is preferably 2-phenylphenol, and the water-soluble organic solvent (D) is preferably an alcohol or a ketone.
