abstract |
To provide a magnetic powder capable of preventing a sintering in a reduction process and constructing a low noise, high output, high C / N high recording density medium suitable for a GMR head or the like. The above object is achieved by an iron-based magnetic powder containing a total of 0.01 to 10% of noble metals in terms of atomic ratio to Fe, particularly a magnetic powder mainly composed of Fe 16 N 2 . Such a magnetic powder can be manufactured through a process of reducing iron oxyhydroxide or iron oxide containing 0.01 to 10% in total of noble metals in terms of atomic ratio to Fe.
