SOLUTION: An exhaust gas purifying catalyst 1 having a catalyst base 3 and a catalyst coat layer 5 containing a noble metal and a refractory inorganic oxide and formed on the catalyst base 3, wherein an upstream inner layer 17 is The cerium-zirconium composite oxide having a composition ratio of CeO 2 of 50 to 95 wt% is included, and the upstream outer layer 15 includes a cerium-zirconium composite oxide having a composition ratio of ZrO 2 of 50 to 95 wt%.
