A method for detecting differences between cell types and conditions by reproducibly labeling compatible fluorescent reagents and membrane components such as those expressed on the cell surface, followed by differential analysis of the labeled components; Is disclosed. Furthermore, the present invention uses internal standards to match protein patterns across gels, thereby avoiding variability between gels. The method according to the invention is particularly useful, for example, for detecting low abundance membrane proteins, eg for detecting changes in receptors expressed in the cell membrane upon ligand binding or in response to a stimulus. |
