abstract |
An arrhythmia identification apparatus and method includes receiving an electrocardiogram signal and an alternative signal in a subcutaneous location. ECG signals and alternative signals are used to distinguish between normal sinus rhythms and arrhythmias. Arrhythmia may be detected using an electrocardiogram signal and may be confirmed using an alternative signal. A detection window may be initiated in response to receipt of the electrocardiogram signal and may be used to determine whether an alternative signal has been received at a time within the detection window. A heart rate may be calculated based on the electrocardiogram signal and the alternative signal. The heart rate may be used to distinguish between normal sinus rhythm and arrhythmia, and may be used to determine the absence of arrhythmia. |
