The present invention relates to complexes of protein crystals and ionic polymers, and compositions comprising such complexes. The present invention further provides methods for producing these complexes and compositions. The invention further provides a method for treating an individual having a disease that requires or is ameliorated by sustained release of a protein-based therapy. In order to develop a sustained release composition of various protein crystals, the present invention takes advantage of the amphoteric nature of the protein. The present invention also provides a method for treating disease states that require or are ameliorated by sustained release of drug therapy. |
