titleOfInvention | ErbB surface receptor complex as a biomarker |
abstract | The present invention is directed to a new class of biomarkers in patient samples comprising a dimer of ErbB cell surface membrane receptors. In one aspect, the present invention provides a method for correlating a disease state or health state with the amount of one or more ErbB cell surface membrane receptor dimers measured directly in a patient sample, particularly a fixed tissue sample. A method for determining the status of such a state. In another aspect, the present invention provides a measurement of the amount of one or more ErbB cell surface membrane receptor dimers in a sample cell to determine the presence or absence of a precancerous condition, the presence or absence of a cancerous condition, the prognosis of cancer. Or a method of determining a cancer state in an individual-derived specimen by correlating with the cancer state, including responsiveness to treatment. Preferably, the method of the invention is performed by using a set of binding compounds having releasable molecular tags that are specific for multiple components of one or more types of receptor dimers. . After binding, the molecular tag is released and separated from the assay mixture and analyzed. |
