An approach to implementing a subcutaneous medical electrode system involves positioning multiple electrode subsystems relative to the heart such that most ventricular tissue is contained within the volume defined between the electrode subsystems. One of the electrode subsystems thus positioned may include a can electrode disposed on a housing surrounding the medical device. The medical device may be configured to provide a therapeutic, medical or monitoring function, including, for example, cardiac arrhythmia therapy. |
