titleOfInvention Fluorocarbon conversion
abstract Disclosed is a method for converting a fluorocarbon to a useful monomer or other chemical precursor, a fluorinated unsaturated compound such as C 2 H 2 F 2 . In the method, a hydrocarbon raw material (20) and a fluorocarbon raw material (10) are reacted in a high temperature reactor (26) with a sufficiently high temperature and a sufficiently short residence time, and a reaction product having a fluorinated unsaturated compound as a main reaction product. Producing a product mixture (28) and cooling (18) to a temperature sufficiently low that the unsaturated compound does not polymerize. The reaction product can then be processed to remove higher molecular weight compound (35) and acid (32), optionally separated into product components (44).
