Botulinum toxin is a well-known systemic toxin that produces a beneficial therapeutic effect by locally attaching to nerves in the muscular nerve junction of the target area of a particular tissue and possibly within other tissues. The present invention provides botulinum toxin and sequestrant compositions that increase the isolation and delivery of botulinum toxin to nerves and related tissues as compared to available botulinum toxin formulations, thereby producing beneficial clinical effects . The sequestering agents of the present invention include proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates. A preferred composition of the present invention comprises botulinum toxin and albumin. The present invention also provides methods of treating neuromuscular disease and pain using the disclosed compositions and methods of making the disclosed compositions. |
