The present invention is a ligand isolated from a Moraxella catarrhalis outer membrane protein that binds to a CEACAM receptor, wherein said ligand is an amino acid sequence selected from the disclosed group, or a fragment, homologue, function thereof Ligands consisting of general equivalents, derivatives, degenerate or hydroxylated, sulfonated, or glycosylated products, or other secondary processing products are provided. The present invention also provides drugs and vaccines comprising said ligands and their use in the treatment or prevention of infectious diseases. Also provided are screening methods for identifying novel therapeutic compounds. |
