Electroporation is used to proliferate the wound healing provided by transfection of nucleic acids encoding cell growth factors. Wounds that are sensitive to the method include skin damage, muscle damage, bone damage, burns, and gastrointestinal anastomosis, among others. The kit includes an electrode and a nucleic acid encoding a cell growth factor. In a first embodiment of the present invention, a method for promoting wound healing in a patient is provided. Nucleic acid encoding a gain factor is administered to the patient's wound site. An electric field is applied to the wound site in an amount sufficient to increase the expression of the encoded growth factor. In a second embodiment, a method for promoting patient wound healing is provided. |
