titleOfInvention | Polymerizable monomers and methods for their preparation |
abstract | The present invention relates to polymerizable monomers and their synthesis for application in medicine and biotechnology. Polymerizable ligands containing N acetylglucosamine bind to lysozyme more strongly than NAG itself. Binding is further enhanced when a spacer arm, such as 6-aminocaproic acid (6-ACA) is introduced into the structure. The bound ligand may be used for the treatment and prevention of bacterial and viral infections. In addition, these ligands can be coupled to stimulate sensitive polymers. This method may be extended to other ligands such as salicylic acid and corresponding polymers used to prevent influenza and retroviral infections. |
