Catalyst-containing gas diffusion layer for fuel cell and method for producing the same |
abstract |
The present invention relates to a catalyst-containing gas diffusion layer for fuel cells, particularly low temperature fuel cells such as PEMFC and DMFC. The gas diffusion layer is used on the anode side of the fuel cell and contains catalyst components that cause carbon monoxide removal (in PEMFC) or methanol oxidation (in DMFC). The catalyst component is produced by temperature treatment directly from a suitable precursor compound in the porous layer material and is evenly distributed over the entire volume of the gas diffusion layer. The catalyst component thereby has a particularly high activity. Furthermore, a method for producing a catalyst-containing gas diffusion layer is described. The gas diffusion layer is used in membrane electrode units (MEEEs) for low-temperature fuel cells, particularly for PEM fuel cells that are operated using CO-containing reformate gas. They can also be used in direct methanol fuel cells (DMFC). |
