abstract There is provided an electric lamp that has a light emitting layer on the surface of the lamp envelope and that forms visible light when irradiated with ultraviolet rays generated inside the electric lamp. The lamp undercoat increases the lumen efficiency of the lamp. The undercoat has a particulate non-emissive material, which is obtained from a sintered mixture of aluminum oxide material provided with an adjacent layer of getter material, the getter material being an impurity contained in the lamp React with. The getter material is an alkaline earth metal borate or a mixture thereof.
