An invention for locally modulating calcium channel activity in a mammal is disclosed. In one aspect, the present invention comprises the step of contacting a predetermined tissue or organ region with a nucleic acid sequence encoding the GEM protein or variant thereof in order to express the GEM protein or variant within the region. Features including methods. Exemplary methods also include expressing a GEM protein or variant to modulate calcium channel activity. The present invention has a wide range of useful applications, including the treatment of medical conditions associated with inappropriate calcium channel activity. |
