titleOfInvention Automated system and method for digital subscriber line management
abstract An automated system for digital subscriber line (DSL) provisioning, deployment, and management in the telephone network optimizes and corrects the performance of one or more symmetric and / or asymmetric digital subscriber lines in the cable Data about loop configuration, electromagnetic interference, and crosstalk between lines. This system uses measurements and data to individually optimize DSL lines. The optimal transmit power spectral density (PSD) for each DSL can be determined in an iterative manner. Each DSL starts with a certain starting parameter, and the transmission PSD of each DSL is optimized in a round robin manner. The crosstalk to a given DSL is calculated (850) as the power sum of all transmissions passing through the measured crosstalk coupling (820). In asymmetric DSL, its transmit PSD is optimized by using a “water filling” technique (860). In symmetric or single carrier DSL, the transmission PSD is simply optimized as being the PSD corresponding to the maximum bit rate that can be reliably transmitted (890). The joint optimization algorithm quickly converges to a unique value after only a few iterations. Each DSL can also be analyzed individually to correct crosstalk disturbers and electromagnetic interference (EMI) by the DSL management system.
