abstract | A magnetic field mass analyzer is disclosed that includes an ion detector 11 and uses a reflective electrode 13 to split the ion beam into two separate ion beam directions by mass dispersion. The two ion beams are directed onto two detectors, which preferably detect two or more conversion dynodes 15a, 15b and electrons generated by the conversion dynodes 15a, 15b. For which two or more corresponding microchannel plate detectors 14a, 14b are included. If the signals from the two detectors are substantially different, the ion beam can be determined to contain interfering ions. Conversely, if the signals from the two detectors are substantially equal, the ion beam can be determined to be substantially free of interfering ions. |
