Thermoplastic polyurethane having alternating arrangement of hard and soft segments, and using nanostructured polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane diol as a chain extender to form a crystalline hard segment constituting SMP. The polyurethane is formed by reacting a polyol, a chain extender dihydroxy terminated POSS and a diisocyanate. The polyurethanes have a number of uses including, for example, medical products, drug delivery matrices, superabsorbent hydrogels, coatings, adhesives, temperature and humidity sensors, and the like. |
