abstract A method and apparatus for receiving a time estimate at a satellite signal receiver receives a time estimate from a server and uses the time estimate to compensate for an error in the satellite signal receiver clock. The output of the compensated clock is used when calculating the position of the satellite signal receiver. The time estimate is received using a network time protocol (NTP) or simple network time protocol (SNTP), or by a unidirectional broadcast from a server.
