abstract The present invention provides a novel aromatic polymer having two hydroxyl groups in one aromatic ring and having high optical activity. The acetylated product has a repeating unit represented by the general formula (I), the number average degree of polymerization of the acetylated product is 3 or more, and the acetylated product in a wavelength range of 200 to 350 nm. An aromatic polymer having a maximum absolute value of molar ellipticity (degree · cm −2 · dmol −1 ) per mole of repeating units of the acetylated compound in a circular dichroism spectrum is 50,000 or more.
