titleOfInvention Liquid crystal light modulator, method for manufacturing the same, and liquid crystal display device
abstract A liquid crystal light modulator having a simple configuration that has a memory function capable of storing a display state by continuous gradation and that can maintain a constant thickness between substrates even when a flexible substrate is used. And a manufacturing method thereof, and a liquid crystal display device. A liquid crystal light modulator includes a composite film composed of a mesh-like divided structure made of synthetic resin and a cholesteric liquid crystal between a pair of transparent substrates each provided with a transparent electrode. The spacer structure 3 made of synthetic resin for adhering and holding the transparent substrate 2 is arranged so as to be adjacent to each other. Both transparent electrodes 1 are connected to a voltage source 9 through lead wires 10. The network-like divided structure 5 divides the cholesteric liquid crystal 4 into a large number of minute regions so that the twist axis direction of molecules induces a liquid crystal domain perpendicular or horizontal to the substrate surface.
