PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine start control device and an engine start control method for a hybrid vehicle capable of suppressing fluctuations in driving force due to initial explosion torque transmission of the engine. SOLUTION: At the time of engine start, a target engine speed setting means for setting a target engine speed that is equal to or lower than a clutch input speed that is a motor side speed of an engine clutch EC is provided.
