titleOfInvention | Plastic optical fiber |
abstract | A communication state of a plastic optical fiber can be visually confirmed. Visible light as an optical signal to be transmitted enters from an end face of a plastic optical fiber. The clad 22 includes a scattering structure that scatters visible light and emits the visible light from the peripheral surface to the outside of the plastic optical fiber. This scattering structure is a structure in which the density varies depending on the position in the cladding 22. This structure is formed by partially changing the crystal structure of the polymer. Thereby, the core 21 transmits most of the visible light, and a part of the visible light is scattered in the clad 22 and is emitted from the outer peripheral surface of the plastic optical fiber 11 to the outside. Therefore, the light of the second wavelength can be visually confirmed, and it can be determined whether or not the communication is in progress, or whether or not the plastic optical fiber 11 is disconnected halfway and the disconnection location.
