abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing an alkylidene succinic acid compound having a benzophenone skeleton, which is an important compound as a raw material for synthesizing a photochromic compound. SOLUTION: A method for producing an alkylidene succinic acid compound having a benzophenone skeleton by reacting a benzophenone compound such as 4-methoxybenzophenone with a succinic acid diester in the presence of a metal alkoxide includes the benzophenone compound and the succinic acid diester.
