A sterile clip used to close or block a tubular vessel, such as a blood vessel in a body, and an instrument for placing the clip in the vessel to ligate the vessel. The aseptic clip includes a leg member disposed in close proximity to each other along substantially the entire length, and a connecting member at an end of the leg member.
