The present invention provides a process for easily obtaining a carboxylic acid derivative in good yield from a polyethylene glycol derivative as a starting material. The present invention provides a method for producing a polyethylene glycol carboxylic acid derivative, which comprises subjecting a polyethylene glycol derivative to an electrolytic oxidation reaction in a single aqueous solution containing a buffer in the presence of an N-oxyl derivative.
