abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve durability and transmission efficiency of a toroidal-type continuously variable transmission with a structure that can be manufactured at low cost and can ensure sufficient durability. SOLUTION: A plurality of rollers 27 and 27 are sandwiched between both driving-side and driven-side cam surfaces 28 and 29, each of which is an uneven surface in the circumferential direction. The rotational force of the drive shaft 23 is transmitted to the cam plate 25 via both the drive side and driven side claw portions 32, 33, and the input side disk 2a is driven to rotate toward the output side disk 11a. A lubricating coating is formed on at least one of the cam surfaces 28 and 29 and the rolling surfaces 37 and 37 of the rollers 27 and 27 by depositing a solid lubricant by shot peening. A similar lubricating coating is also formed on the sliding contact portions between the rollers 27 and 27 and the inner surfaces of the pockets 31 and 31 of the cage 26 and the contact portions between the circumferential side surfaces of the claw portions 32 and 33. With this configuration, the hysteresis is reduced, the difference between the thrust generated actually and the theoretical value is reduced, and the above-described problem is solved.
