abstract | An image forming apparatus is provided that can prevent a cleaning blade from being bent or chattered. In the image forming apparatus, a new image forming position is calculated when the image forming position on the intermediate transfer member is changed at the time of the next image formation, and at least the next toner among the remaining toner after the secondary transfer is calculated. The secondary transfer residual toner is removed when the cleaning unit comes into contact with the image forming area, and the cleaning unit is separated from the part not hitting the next image forming area and passes through the secondary transfer residual toner as it is. When the passed toner image passes through the transfer portion in the image forming portion again, the passed toner image is reversely transferred onto the image carrier to be collected on the image carrier.
