Method for producing carboxylic acid ester by reactive distillation |
abstract |
A process for producing a carboxylic acid ester by esterification is carried out by reactive distillation in a column. Carboxylic esters boil at higher temperatures than free carboxylic acids and alcohols. In the esterification, a solid material catalyst is used. Separation by esterification and distillation takes place in three zones, namely the reaction zone, the upper separation zone and the lower separation zone. Head products and sump products are produced. The required heat separated from the organic phase from the aqueous phase head product is supplied at the temperature set for the sump product. Carboxylic acid esters are obtained from sump products. Removal of carboxylic acid and alcohol is performed by distillation. In this arrangement, heat is supplied to the sump product comprising mostly carboxylic esters and small amounts of other substances at a temperature set in the evaporated sump product at a pressure greater than ambient pressure.
