abstract | A photochromic microcapsule based on a new principle without using a photochromic compound, an ink composition using the photochromic microcapsule, and a method for producing the photochromic microcapsule are provided. The following solutions (1) to (3) are prepared as a preparation step. (1) A diethylene glycol solution containing 0.005 wt% bromocresol green and 0.01 wt% photoacid generator. (2) A 10 wt% toluene solution of PMMA. (3) 4 wt% aqueous solution of PVA. Next, as a mixing step, the diethylene glycol solution (1) and the PMMA toluene solution (2) are stirred to obtain a mixed solution (4). Furthermore, as a volatilization step, the mixed solution (4) is dropped into the PVA aqueous solution (3), and stirring is continued for 2 days to volatilize toluene. Thus, a photochromic microcapsule in which a diethylene glycol solution in which a photoacid generator and bromocresol green are dissolved is encapsulated in a PMMA thin film is obtained.
