PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wholly aromatic liquid crystal polyester resin having high heat resistance and good physical properties such as moldability, fluidity and mechanical properties, and a method for producing the same. Load deflection obtained by heat-treating a prepolymer obtained by polycondensation of a monomer giving a repeating unit represented by the following formulas [I] to [IV] in a substantially solid state. Liquid crystal polyester resin having a temperature of 290 to 340 ° C. and a difference between a crystal melting temperature measured by a differential scanning calorimeter and a load deflection temperature of 40 ° C. or less: [Chemical 1] [Chemical 2] [Chemical 3] [Formula 4] [P, q, r, and s are composition ratios (mol%) of each repeating unit in the liquid crystal polyester resin, and satisfy the following formula; 60 ≦ p + q ≦ 78 0.05 ≦ q ≦ 3 11 ≦ r ≦ 20 11 ≦ s ≦ 20].
