abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a magnetic recording medium excellent in surface smoothness and electromagnetic conversion characteristics, having improved productivity by curing a nonmagnetic layer with a smaller electron beam dose. A method of manufacturing a magnetic recording medium having at least a nonmagnetic support, a lower nonmagnetic layer on the nonmagnetic support, and an upper magnetic layer on the lower nonmagnetic layer, the method comprising: A coating for a nonmagnetic layer containing at least a nonmagnetic powder, an electron beam curable binder resin (R), and an electron beam curable polyfunctional monomer (A) is applied and dried to form an uncured lower nonmagnetic layer. An uncured lower nonmagnetic layer is formed and irradiated with an electron beam at a dose in the range of 1.0 to 4.0 Mrad to cure the lower nonmagnetic layer, and at least strong on the cured lower nonmagnetic layer. A method for producing a magnetic recording medium, comprising applying a magnetic layer coating material containing magnetic powder and a binder resin and drying to form an upper magnetic layer.
