abstract | Provided are a quaternary ammonium salt-containing group-containing organopolysiloxane having no amine odor, a production method thereof, a thickener, a gelling agent and a gel-like composition. SOLUTION: Average unit formula: R 1 a R 2 b SiO (4-ab) / 2 (1) [wherein R 1 is a monovalent hydrocarbon group or a monovalent substituted hydrocarbon group (but corresponds to R 2) excluding those), R 2 is formula :-( R 3) c -O d R 4 - (CH 2) 3 N + (CH 3) 3 X - 4 quaternary ammonium salt-containing group represented by (2) (Wherein R 3 is an alkylene group, R 4 is a phenylene group that can be substituted with an alkyl group or an alkoxy group. 1 ≦ a ≦ 2.5, 0.0005 ≦ b ≦ 1.5, c and d are 0 or 1) Group-containing organopolysiloxane. A production method by a reaction between a hydroxyphenyl group-containing organopolysiloxane and a glycidyltrimethylammonium salt. A thickener or gelling agent comprising the organopolysiloxane.
