PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toner additive formulation in which a dam layer can be satisfactorily formed between a cleaning blade and a photoreceptor surface and filming countermeasures can be taken. In a toner for developing an electrostatic latent image having at least colored particles containing a binder resin, a colorant and a release agent, and an external additive, the external additive has a volume average particle size of 500. Toner containing silica having a dispersity Dv / Dn of 1.8 to 2.8 at approximately 800 nm, a substantially spherical shape, and substantially non-agglomerated structure and present alone. By doing so, since the particle size distribution is broad, a dense dam layer is formed between the photoreceptor and the blade edge, and the cleaning performance is greatly improved.
