abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make temperature uniform by preventing temperature drop of a fixing member when continuously passing through a fixing device and preventing non-sheet passing portion temperature rise when continuously passing a small size recording medium. When the size of the recording medium P to be passed is small, the temperature Tc at the center in the axial direction of the fixing member 14 is detected and compared with a second set temperature T2. If Tc <T2, the center is detected. The main heating member 1a, which is a partial heater, is turned on. If Tc <T2, the main heating member 1a is turned off. Further, the temperature Tr at the axial end of the fixing member 14 is detected and compared with the second set temperature T2. If Tr <T2, the main heating member 1a as the central heater and the main heating member as the end heater are used. 1b is turned on, and if Tr <T1, the main heating member 1a and the main heating member 1b are turned off.
