titleOfInvention | Port adapter for tangential flow filtration |
abstract | A tangential flow filtration assembly having a filter holder, a TFF cassette, and a hollow extension port adapter is provided. The filter holder has a pair of compression manifolds, at least one of the compression manifolds having an outer surface, an inner surface, and a port leading to a fluid passageway from the outer surface to the inner surface. A TFF cassette engaged between the compression manifolds uses a single filter plate with an ultrafiltration membrane placed in a planar framework. The hollow extension port adapter includes an engagement end and an insertion end with a flange disposed therebetween. An elastomeric sealing element is disposed at the insertion end of the adapter. The hollow extension port adapter is (i) the distal end of the insertion end is flush with or slightly retracted from the inner surface of the compression manifold, (ii) the flange sits on the port, and (iii) An elastomeric sealing element is inserted from the port into the fluid passage so as to form a sterile watertight seal within the fluid passage.
