abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic resin powder-containing organic resin binder and a carbon-containing refractory using the organic resin binder, which improve the heat resistant spall property of the carbon-containing refractory. An organic resin powder (acrylic resin, polystyrene resin) having an average particle size of 0.1 to 20 microns, or an organic resin binder containing the organic resin powder and carbon black, the content of the organic resin powder Is 1 to 50 wt%, or when used in combination with carbon black, the organic resin powder and carbon black content is 1 to 50 wt%, and the total content of both is 2 to 60 wt% binder. Further, a carbon-containing refractory containing the organic resin binder, wherein the carbon contained in the carbon-containing refractory is graphite or amorphous carbon, and in the residual carbon generated by heating the organic resin binder. The carbon-containing refractory having pores with an average pore diameter of 20 microns or less, or the pores with the average pore diameter of 20 microns or less is formed by decomposition and disappearance of the organic resin powder of the acrylic resin or polystyrene resin.
