abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an iron oxide powder which can be manufactured industrially at low cost and has an excellent VOC purifying ability. The present invention has an average primary particle size of 0.02 to 0.10 μm, a BET specific surface area of 30 to 100 m 2 / g, an Fe 2+ content of 5 to 33% by weight of the total amount of Fe, and a magnesium content. The present invention relates to an iron oxide powder for purification treatment of soil and groundwater containing an organic halogen compound, characterized in that is 0.2 to 5% by weight as MgO. Furthermore, the iron content is preferably 70% by weight or more as Fe 2 O 3 , and the main component of the iron oxide is preferably a beltride compound. [Selection figure] None
