abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a curable polyphenylene ether useful as an electric / electronic material, particularly as a solder resist material, which can be easily crosslinked / cured and gives a cured product excellent in at least one of flexibility, heat resistance, dielectric properties and chemical resistance. And a composition thereof. SOLUTION: General formula (2) [Chemical 1] (In the formula, R 4 and R 5 , p, q, and n are as described in the specification.) The main unit is the unit represented by general formula (1) in the same molecule. [Chemical 2] (In the formula, R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are as described in the specification.) Compared with a polyphenylene ether having a functional group selected from the group consisting of an epoxy group, an allyl group, an acryloyl group and a methacryloyl group represented by the above formula, crosslinked and cured, and composed only of the unit represented by the general formula (2) A curable polyphenylene ether that gives a cured product having at least one of heat resistance, dielectric properties and chemical resistance.
