A surface treatment material capable of imparting moisture absorption / release properties, texture, durability, and the like, and a fiber, yarn, woven fabric, knitted fabric, nonwoven fabric, film, sheet, or leather treated with the surface treatment material. A surface treatment material of the present invention contains a water-soluble organic substance having an average molecular weight of 100 to 20,000 and a reactive modifier.
