PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium having a dimensionally stable substrate. A magnetic recording medium comprising a substrate having a front surface and a back surface, a longitudinal direction and a cross-web direction, wherein a fine particle / binder or thin film magnetic layer is formed on the surface of the substrate. A magnetic recording medium having a cross-web dimensional difference from the magnetic recording head used therewith of less than 900 μm / meter over a temperature range and over a 70% relative humidity range.
